The evening will take place at Conway Hall’s Library, surrounded by archival manuscripts, books and artwork, and will include a panel discussion, Q + A, and book signing (books to be bought separately).

About the speakers

Helen Carr is an award nominated writer and historian specialising in medieval history. She is the author of two Times top ten best-selling books, The Red Prince: John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and recently, the instant bestselling, Sceptred Isle: A New History of the Fourteenth Century and the co-author and editor of What is History, Now?: A follow up to What is History? (1961) by her gread-grandfather, the historian, E.H. Carr. Helen writes and reviews non-fiction for the TLS, The Spectator, The Telegraph amongst others and she hosts podcasts for Intelligence Squared. Helen is a royal historian for Global News Canada and has broadcast for CNN, NBC, Sky and CityTV covering the British Royal Family. Helen is an elected fellow of the Royal Historical Society and currently with Queen Mary University London.

Elizabeth Norton is an historian specialising in queenship and the Tudor period. She has a double first class degree in Archaeology and Anthropology from Cambridge, a Masters from Oxford and a PhD in History from King's College London. She has written a number of critically acclaimed books, including the recent Women Who Ruled the World: 5000 Years of Female Monarchy, which was published in September 2025. She regularly appears on television, including commentating royal events for the BBC and CNN and in the BBC's The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family and Channel 5's Queen Victoria In Her Own Words. She also acts as a consultant for film and television, including Firebrand, which starred Jude Law.

Dr Emily Hauser is an award-winning ancient historian and bestselling author; she has a PhD in Classics from Yale and was Junior Fellow at the Society of Fellows at Harvard. The author of acclaimed novels rewriting Greek myth, including For the Most Beautiful, her books have been published and translated across the world, listed among the "28 Best Books for Summer" in The Telegraph and shortlisted for the Seminary Co-Op’s Best Books of 2023. She has appeared on several BBC Radio shows including BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour and BBC Radio 5 Live, ABC Radio (Australia) and KPFA Radio (USA) and has been featured in The Guardian alongside Colm Tóibín and Natalie Haynes. Whether writing, teaching, or speaking to global audiences, she brings ancient stories into the present with lyrical insight and a fierce commitment to justice. Her latest book, Mythica: A New History of Homer’s World, through the Women Written Out Of It (2025, Penguin Random House), was an instant Times bestseller.

Unfortunately, due to the age and Grade II listing of the building, there is no lift access to rooms above the ground floor, which includes the Library.

Due to the nature of this event, tickets are non-refundable. However, if you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to transfer or gift your ticket to someone else. Simply email us with the new attendee’s name for security purposes.
